Why I have lost faith in Technology

It is amazing how many people love to tell everyone or at least me that technology will make our lives better. Cellphones, computers, dishwasher, etc... have all made our lives better but at what cost. Have we collectively looked into the future and tried to discern what we will lose as technology advances?  Are we just content at this moment with the new hot gadget that we can get for an easy monthly payment of 9.99 dollars, tax and special fees not included.  Then its outdated in a month if your lucky.  I understand, people are stupid, lazy and self involved but I cannot go down without voicing my opinion.
Here is an example that I love talking about, the new scheduling software that Walmart and Sam's Club corporations use to increase efficiency of the store.  This also is supposed to help increase profits by decreasing wasted time by having extra employees who are not actively working.  So, if I understand how this program works and remember I am a self confessed Luddite, it goes something like this,  the program takes past data of peak purchasing times or when the registers where the most active.  It takes this information and sets schedules so that you have the minimum required employees to match the volume of potential people purchasing.
The problem is that it never seems to get it right.  Talking and watching employees you see that if you begin to get lines, which are not supposed to happen, employees have to be called from the floor to work the cash registers.  Then when you are trying to find someone on the floor for assistance you cant because they have been sent to help out in the front at the registers.  The floor people then get in trouble and have extra work because they have neglected there areas because the computer did not schedule enough people.
What is not usually talked about is that the corporation has used this software to cut the cost of workers.  They have had to factor in the fact that they will have increased turn over rates in workers.  Also, the workers that are there are usually frustrated because people take out there agitation on those who work there.  So, why would you do such a thing in an already profitable business?  To make bigger and bigger profits and bigger and bigger bonus' for management.  This is the cornerstone of what truly is what will become the technological destruction of the middle and lower classes.
